Final Blog Of Slamma Jamma!

Yes readers it is true this is my final blog entry, in my final blog I will be speaking about President Barack Obama and the many struggles he has in the future to fix our broken economy. When Obama takes office on January 22nd, Obama will have many problems to fix, a broken economy, a war in Iraq just to name a few. This is why it is very important to watch who Barack Obama picks for his cabinet, as these people will be greatly assisting Obama in the struggle to fix our problems.

Many questions have been asked about Obama, is he really ready to be president? Does he have enough experience? Will he stick to his promises or ignore all pleas and make his own plan? He must have a solid plan in order to help our economy and bring us as the people out of a deep hole of mistakes and issues.

I do have faith in Barack Obama, that he was elected for good reason, that he will help fix our broken society. I am not saying Barack Obama will make this change over night, probably not in his four year term, but I hope he can at least get us a good first step and put us on the right track.

Well it was fun blogging and I hope all my readers enjoyed it as well.

History for all, dissapointment for others

I would like to start this blog entry by first congratulating Senator Barack Obama on his historical win in the 08 election last night and becoming the first black president ever. He fought long and hard and to show for it a victory, I would also like to congratulate Senator John McCain although he has no victory to show for his hard work Senator McCain fought just as long if not harder then Senator Obama did to bring together a great campaign. Now to the topic, these next paragraphs are from my journal entry of last night as I watched the election unfold.

I was shocked at how fast Senator Obama won, last I checked I checked Senator McCain was closing the gap with a 207-143 electoral count in favor of Senator Obama. Moments later a picture was displayed declaring Senator Barack Obama the 44th president of the United States of America. This frustrated me because I am a McCain supporter and to see the gap of electoral votes every so slowly close gave me the slightest sliver of hope, to be moments later crushed by the announcment. I can honestly say it was not a surprise Senator Obama won, but I did have a little hope left for Senator McCain to win.

I am filled with many words and emotions after the 08 election, hope, fear, disappointment, predictable, upset and many more. I feel Senator McCain would have been a better suit for the white house mainly for his many many years of experience and for his views on war, abortion and funding. I can now only hope Senator Obama can help us take the first giant step forward and not pull us back. I have faith for Senator Obama as I do fear, fear he will fail with his lack of experience, fear that the weight of the white house will come crashing down on him. I wonder, will he really bring the change that America so badly needs? Is he ready for a task this big? Only a four year term will tell us now.

Legislative Branch

Hey all, its time for another session of Slamma Time! Brought to you by me, Slamma Jamma. Today’s topic is the Legislative branch of government, what is this branch of government and what does it do? Well the legislative branch of the federal government consists of the Congress, which is divided into two groups -- the Senate and the House of Representatives. Each member of Congress is elected by the people of his or her state. The House of Representatives, with membership based on state populations, has 435 seats, while the Senate, with two members from each state, has 100 seats. Members of the House of Representatives are elected for two-year terms, and Senators are elected for six-year terms. This makes me wonder, how long are you able to stay in one of these positions if you never get kicked out? If you run for ever because yours spot is never taken by someone else?

In addition to working on bills, the Senate is responsible for approving many of the decisions of the president. Treaties and appointments of judges, department heads, ambassadors, and agency leaders receive final approval in the Senate. Treaties are given special consideration and must be approved by a two-thirds vote to become law. The leader of the Senate is the vice-president. As leader, the vice-president decides who will speak to the Senate and casts a deciding vote when a tie occurs. However, the vice-president is not a member of the Senate and does not participate in debates about bills. This surprised me because can’t the V.P be bias to his/her preferred choice? I mean they can just say they don’t like it but what if it is a good bill and because of his/her beliefs the V.P just says no? I also wonder how often this happens.

The House of Representatives is called the lower house of Congress. There are four-hundred and thirty five members in the House. Every two years the entire House of Representatives is up for election. Representatives must be careful to be the voice of the people for their state. The shorter term gives the people the opportunity to choose someone else when a representative does not follow their wishes. To serve as a representative, a person must be twenty-five years old, a U.S. citizen for seven years, and a resident of the state where elected. So my question is do all four-hundred and thirty five members vote on each bill? Or is it only the bill for there state?

In addition to working on laws with the Senate, the House of Representatives has other responsibilities. In a presidential election where a candidate does not receive a majority of the electoral votes, the House of Representatives meets to choose the next President. What!?! That’s an insane amount of power to have, has this ever happened before?

Well that’s all the slamma time I have today, till next time.

Is Democracy Dead?

Hey all, its time for another session of Slamma Time! Today I am blogging about a movie I watched called Is Democracy Dead? In my opinion democracy is not dead, but sick or injured. There are so many examples of our democracy being vandalized or abused, my main example is of the voting scandal in Florida in 2000, where there were lines numbering the thousands waiting to vote on the only three active machines in there county while several inactive machines lay that could have been used. This was the case in many situations and this shut out many voters from voting, as well as the mistaken convicted felon list, nearly 90,000 people on the list were incorrectly put on the list thus not allowing those 90,000 wrongly convicted people to vote. Who knows what would have happened to the election if all the people who couldn't have voted would have, who knows if this was purposely done, but i wanna here your thought readers. Is democracy dead? Was this voter fraud and wrongly convicted list purposely done to get bush on office? Post your opinion, I would love to here it.

Till next time-

Slammas First Blog. Topic: Democracy!!!

Democracy, what is democracy? Really, who defines the word? When i think of democracy i think of government, its just the first thing to pop into my head because I have heard it used in the same category many of times. Well in the dictionary democracy is defined as:

Democracy-"A government by the people in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised directly by them or by their elected agents under a free electoral system"

O! OK so we as Americans are a democracy! We all as Americans have the supreme power to vote, and if we chose not to we can give our vote to our Representatives who will vote for who we want (most of the time, they never have to if they don't want to, but usually they follow what you ask).

Well till next time, your favorite blogger:
